Cam Douglas

STEERING COMMITTEE

Cam’s formative years were spent in all places outdoors during summer camping holidays in a teacher family, and Cam credits this for his becoming a geography teacher and passionate environmental educator.  Cam’s teaching career began in informal settings on the Northwest Coast of BC and has since migrated to the Kawartha Pine Ridge DSB in Nogojiwanong (Peterborough) 20 years back.  Climate education has been the organizing theme of his teaching for the past 18 years, and this commitment culminated in his creation of the integrated curriculum 4 credit Youth Leadership in Sustainability (YLS) program for grade 11 and 12 students.  In this program, students learn of sustainability challenges and solutions/opportunities, then develop and put into practice advocacy skills to protect their communities and their planet.  Cam is engaged in trying to mainstream environmental education in his School Board and beyond and appreciates the role that EEON can play in this regard. Cam stays engaged in local city politics, especially within the areas of active transportation, biodiversity protection/regeneration, and climate action.
